The first of a series of three excursions by bus took us to Mittenwald which is located in the most beautiful Land of Werdenfels. In spite of the bad weather with heavy rainfall at the start in Munich all club members who had registered attended this trip. When we arrived in Mittenwald the rain stopped and we visited in good mood the "Geigenbaumuseum". The deputy Director of the Mittenwald Geigenbau school informed us of the subleties and secrets of manufacturing violins by a most interesting presentation. Matthias Klotz and Jacob Stainer were the originators of the reputation and importance of the Mittenwald violin production in the past and through todays time. After visitation of the church St. Peter and Paul with its wonderful ceiling fresco and fittings of Matthäus Günther we had an extensive and comfortable lunch at the Hotel-Gasthof Alpenrose. We then proceeded towards Oberammergau for a visitation and guided tour of the Barock church of the Ettal Monastery which was founded by the Emperor "Ludwig der Bayer" in the year 1330 as part of a pledge. This interesting and harmonious day ended with a stylish Bavarian Brotzeit in the Griesbräu restaurant of the same name Brewery in Murnau at the Lake Staffelsee. We are most grateful to our club friend Erich Wölfinger for the perfect organisation of this excursion. |
