Weekly Stammtisch at the Ratskeller in Munich, Room Bacchus-Keller

The German American Men’s Club Munich was founded in 1947 as the first one of its kind. It substantially contributed to the rubble clearance and rebuilding of Munich after WW II. To help stem an infantile paralysis epidemic, the club purchased an "iron lung" and initiated the "Pfennig Parade" to provide funds, similar to the "March of Dimes" in the United States.

The Club is a charter member of the Federation of German-American Clubs. Its major goals are the furtherance of good relations and support of various charitable institutions involving the two nations. Foremost of these is financial support for the Student Exchange Program, which annually permits nearly 60 university students to study abroad, and for the Youth Program of the Federation, which conducts seminars for 14 -18 year-olds and makes arrangements with host-families in a "Homestay Program" for groups of young people to enable their visit the other’s country.

Membership in our club is about 160, around 15% of whom are American citizens. The Minister President of Bavaria, the U.S. Consul General in Munich, the Lord Mayor of Munich, the  Commander Military District Command IV (South Germany) and the former President Mr. Samuel W. Magill are honorary presidents.

Among the highlights of the year’s activities are an Advent tour and a Christmas party. Throughout the year, interesting tours, theater evenings, a weekly luncheon and social evenings are arranged for members and friends.

The annual dues are at present 70 € which includes membership in the Federation and subscription to the "Gazette", the official organ of the Federation of German-American Clubs. We are pleased about new members who want to participate actively in the club activities, thereby confirming their attitude toward international understanding.
